School Safety Discussed

January 2007

On January 25, the Monticello Board of Education held a workshop to discuss the accomplishments of the district schools in their effort to address safety. Each school principal gave a written report to the Board members and gave an oral presentation to the crowd of more than 50 community members on their on-going efforts to increase safety in their school.

Monticello High School Principal Arleene Siegel-Lerner, talked about the emergency drills the school has been conducting, and how personnel were making every effort to keep the school's 88 doors locked at all times. RJK Principal Deborah Wood reported on the addition of three hall monitors to her staff, and how it is now mandatory for every employee to always wear their ID badge when on school grounds.

Cooke Elementary School Principal Dr. William Greene (pictured) discussed the school's new buzzer system and how it has helped staff keep track of every person who enters the building.
Assistant Superintendent Ms. Kathleen Pagano-Fuller, was named Director of the District Health and Safety Committee and plans to work with the staff, BOE and community members to address any remaining issues and to insure that safety remains a top priority in all the district schools.
