Presidential awardees honored for excellence
Monticello Central School District is pleased to announce that
221 students qualified this year for the Presidential Education
Awards. Established in 1983, the Presidential Education Awards
Program honors students in the fifth, eighth, and twelfth grades
for attaining the highest level of academic achievement.
The program is
sponsored by the Department of Education in partnership with the
National Association of Elementary and Secondary Principals. It
consists of two awards: the President's Award for Educational
Excellence and the President's Award for Educational
Achievement.
To qualify for the
President's Award for Educational Excellence, students must earn
a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and achieve the
85th percentile or higher in mathematics or reading on
standardized achievement tests.
The President's
Award for Educational Achievement recognizes students who have
shown outstanding educational growth and improvement, or
commitment to academic excellence. This award recognizes the
hard work and effort made by students who have given their best
effort in school.
