Jack Leshner retires from Board of Education

Spring 2003 (back)

After 22 years of service to the Monticello School District, Jack Leshner is retiring from the Board of Education.

At age 75, Leshner, who has dedicated his life to the field of education, is leaving public service to spend more time with his family.

A Monticello native, Leshner sys being a member of the Board of Education was a great source of personal satisfaction because it provided him with an opportunity to witness "many wonderful educational developments in the areas of academics and facilities."

During his tenure, which spanned from 1965 to 1970 and then from 1986 to 2003, the Monticello High School and the new Robert J. Kaiser Middle School were built. Additions were made to each of the elementary buildings and numerous technological advancements were made throughout the district.

With a sense of pride, he says, "This is one of the finest Boards of Education in the state. Everyone on the board wants the same thing--to provide the best possible education for our children at an affordable cost."
