Dear Parents and Community Members

October 20, 2006

Since I informed you about the situation involving some of our employees with inappropriate and offensive e-mails on their school computers, many varying reports of the incident have surfaced. This note is so I can personally update you as to the status of the situation.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing, as there are thousands of e-mails in our backup system that have to be sorted through one-by-one. Also, police authorities are still analyzing what we send them to see if there is any violation of the law.

So far, there are still only four employees whose computers have been found to have these e-mails. It is essential that it is understood that they are still under investigation.  Even though the media may release their names as we move forward, I caution you against quick judgment until all the facts are in.

There is a specific protocol that I must follow based on union rules, district policies, and local, state and federal laws. I want to assure you that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in this district, and as soon as the investigation is complete, I will deal with this appropriately and fairly.

I thank you for your support through this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Patrick Michel
Superintendent of Schools
