Maker Space and summer programs at the E.B. Crawford Public Library

June 18, 2018

A Maker Space is a Do-It-Yourself event where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. It is a great opportunity to play with new technology, make cool crafts, and get creative.

The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library will host a Maker Space event on Friday, June 22, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Children and teens ages 7 and up will have the opportunity to build marble mazes, create origami animals, explore the world with VR goggles, play with a robotic arm, learn to program a robot with Ozobots, and use an Ipad to code a LEGO robot. This is a drop-in program, so participants can stop by for a few minutes or stay for the whole two hours.

Summer reading program planned

The library also has an exciting summer reading program planned. Sign-ups for the summer reading program will begin June 25 and activities will start Monday, July 2. There will be a variety of activities for kids, tweens, and teens this summer.

The 2018 summer reading theme is “Libraries Rock” and that is just what we intend to prove. From a Tinker Tots exploration program, to Robotics Club for kids and Read Aloud Round-Up, to Ssips & Paint, there will be great events for all ages. Special performers will visit on July 3, 11, and 19 as well as Aug. 1. These special events will require tickets. Your free tickets will be available up to two weeks prior to each performance, and are given out on a first come, first served basis. For more information, call the library or stop by and visit us.

There is an exciting lineup of programs for tweens & teens too. The summer program will begin with a video game tournament on July 5. We will offer a creative writing workshop where teens and tweens can hone their writing craft, Teen Test Kitchen where we will experiment with food every Monday, and even an Anime Read & Watch club! From crafts to escape room games, Yoga to movie marathons. We have it all at the library this summer.

All summer reading participants will have the opportunity to win great prizes, ranging from a pair of tickets to New York Comic Con, tickets to sporting events, a Kindle Fire Tablet, book sets, local gift cards, and more.
