Excellence rewarded

Mary Truesdell, Karen  Collura and Laurie Kilgore received their awards of excellence.Congratulations are certainly in order for two teachers and a former staff member of the Monticello Central School District.

Mary Truesdell, a retired guidance counselor, and teachers Laurie Kilgore and Karen Collura were honored by the Mid-Hudson School Study Council in October.

Truesdell received an award for excellence in pupil personnel services while Kilgore, an art teacher at Chase Elementary School, and Collura, a high school English teacher, received 2017 Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching.

Each was chosen from a long list of nominations received by the organization, which encompasses school districts in seven counties in the Mid-Hudson region. Within the district, all nominations also went through district Superintendent Tammy Mangus.

“I am pleased and proud to be surrounded by excellent folks like these fine individuals,” said Mangus. “These awards are tributes to their dedication to our students as well as our district.”

The Mid-Hudson School Study Council honored the award winners at a gala at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor on Oct. 19.
