KLR fourth graders are making a ‘change’

Nov. 21, 2017

Staff holds large check to be sent for hurrican relief in HoustonStudents in the Monticello School District focused on setting and getting goals in the month of October.

Fourth graders at Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School set a goal that would benefit others in need. It is part of the school’s empathy project where each month a different grade level spearheads a project.

The fourth graders came up with the “Be the Change” initiative where KLR students were encouraged to donate their spare change to help a classroom in Houston that was greatly affected by Hurricane Harvey. They connected with Braeburn Elementary School via the website Teachers Pay Teachers.

By the end of the month, the generous families of KLR donated $374.35 to Molly Perelman’s third grade class at Braeburn. The funds will go to helping her buy supplies and other things needed to get her classroom up and running again.

That's paying it forward.
