All-county music festival will not be rescheduled

March 10, 2018

The president of the Sullivan County Music Educators' Association announced that the All-County music festival, that was cancelled last weekend because of a nor'easter, will not be rescheduled. Here is the letter announcing that decision:

Dear 2018 SCMEA All-County Festival participants,

The 2018 Sullivan County Music Educators’ Association All-County Festival will not be rescheduled.

The weather, power outages and road closures made it impossible for the festival to take place on the weekend of March 3. We would love to reschedule the festival, however, it is just not possible with eight different district calendars, spring musicals and the Zone 9 NYSSMA solo festivals coming up.

This was a heartbreaking decision to make and we are deeply sorry to all of the students who worked so diligently to be part of the event.

A full all-county cancellation has not occurred since 1993. With this in mind, SCMEA will be meeting post haste to revise the current snow contingency and begin planning for next year’s all-county festival.

Thank you so much for your support and encouragement of music in our schools and for SCMEA.

Sincerely,

Kelly R. Bullis
SCMEA president
