Monticello students receive academic excellence scholarships

Five Monticello High School students are receiving scholarships from the New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence.

Five Monticello High School students will receive NYS Scholarship for Academic ExcellenceThe five students - from left, Dylan Broder, Kelly Swensen, Morgan Mitchell, Autumn Herald and Michael Schneider, Jr. – were nominated by the district based on their outstanding Regents exam scores and will receive the scholarships.

This academic excellence scholarship provides awards of $500 or $1,500 per year for up to five years of undergraduate study in New York state for each student receiving the grant. Statewide, 8,000 scholarships are awarded to top scholars from New York state high schools. Awards are based on student grades in certain Regents exams.

In order to be eligible, students must:

• Have graduated from a New York state high school
• Study full time and be matriculated in an approved undergraduate program of study in a New York state post-secondary institution
• Be in good academic standing
• Not be in default on any state or federal student loan or on any repayment of state awards
• Be U.S. citizens or qualifying noncitizens
• Be New York state residents
