Jan. 18, 2018

Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Shane Wood takes questions from Cooke second gradersSecond graders at George L. Cooke Elementary School had a visit from Seaman Apprentice Shane Wood, a Monticello High School graduate and brother of teacher Makayla Jahn.

The students have been practicing letter writing and each student was asked to write a holiday card to send to the troops. They had to include all parts of a friendly letter which included the greeting, body and closing.

Then, they put them in a large envelope to give to Wood, who just recently graduated the United States Coast Guard boot camp. Wood came to the Cooke School to visit his sister’s classroom, to educate her students on the branches of the military and answer questions about his experience in the Coast Guard boot camp.
