Students at George L. Cooke Elementary School were treated to a performance by local band Breach the Barrier on March 17 by the Cooke-Rutherford PTO. Breach the Barrier is comprised of teenagers from Sullivan County whose goal is to inspire students to "Be you, be original, be accepting", and who perform throughout the county with an anti-bullying message, often remixing songs such as the Spongebob Squarepants theme and Monster Mash.
To cement the message of accepting others, the band
distributed guitar pics to several students at the end of
the performance and challenged those students to pass the
pic to other students who were demonstrating the attributes
of being original and accepting. The students who received
the pics would then pass the pics on to a new set of
students, with the goal of having the guitar pics pass
through every Cooke student's hands by the end of the day.
