Dec. 15, 2016
As part of the district’s efforts to ensure the safety of
all students, staff and community members, the district’s
safety team is reviewing the drop-off and pick-up routine at
each school building. Without order and routine, the
potential for safety hazards increases – please remember the
following when arriving at your child’s school for drop off
and pick up:
• Please obey all traffic laws on town roads.
• Drivers must pull all the way up into the designated “drop off” zone and be ready to “drop and go.” Parents should remain in their vehicles, and pull away immediately after children have exited the vehicle.
• If you are the parent of a high school or middle school parent, please arrive before 7:22 a.m. to drop off your student to avoid bottle-necking and back-ups.
• Please speak with your children about the importance of using the sidewalk, and when the sidewalk in unavailable, to keep to the side of both parking lots and roadways.
The district has also reached out to the Monticello Police Department to explore ways in which the two organizations can work together to monitor and control traffic in areas where town roads and district property intersect.
“The safety of our students is always the district’s top priority,” Superintendent of Schools Tammy Mangus said. “We are constantly assessing and improving all of our safety protocols and ask for district families’ cooperation in helping to keep our drop-off and pick-up procedures orderly and secure and our students safe.”
