Nov. 15, 2016

The five 2016 inductees are:
Ira Cohen (alumnus, class of 1962)
Dr. Jonathan Garlick (Alumnus, Class of 1970)
Constance Keller (Alumna, Class of 1963)
Dr. Robert J. Kaiser (Teacher, Principal, Superintendent, 1950-1988)
Peter Tufano (Alumnus, Class of 1975).

For the second year in a row, Monticello High School’s junior and senior students were in attendance. As each one of the inductees or their nominator took to the stage to accept their induction, they spoke directly to the Monticello High School students who sat in the audience, encouraging the students to explore their passions, take advantage of educational opportunities and use their talents to be a force for good in the world.

“When our students see real-life examples of excellence in front of them, it helps to motivate them to develop the leadership qualities that they’ll need to make an impact on our world,” Superintendent of Schools Tammy Mangus said. “Although our inductees’ achievements are very diverse, they have one thing in common: they all have roots here in Monticello. Our district and our community provides our students with a strong foundation for success. I hope that the students in attendance realize that any one of them could be up on that stage thirty years in the future inspiring the next generation of leaders.”

The Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction was established in 2012 by the Board of Education as a way to honor graduates or attendees who have made a lasting and outstanding contribution to society upon graduating or leaving the Monticello Central School District. Former teachers and staff members whose professionalism and commitment went above and beyond standard expectations are also recognized. Recipients of the award are selected annually.
