Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library offer free programs for teens

June 6, 2016

The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library in Monticello has plenty of free programs for teens (ages 12-18) over the summer. On Mondays at 5 p.m. starting July 11, there will be a series for teens interested in careers in sports, called, “So You Want to Work in Sports.”

Every week, the library will host speakers who work in different jobs that have to do with sports and athletics. July speakers will include sports journalists (July 11), nutritionists (July 18) and coaches (July 25). August speakers include trainers (August 1) and athletes (8/3).

This is a great opportunity for teens to learn what they have to do in order to work in a variety of professions, including what it takes to be a collegiate and elite athlete. For those who would like to participate but cannot attend the program, we will monitor our Facebook and Twitter accounts (@ebcplibrary) during the programs, and ask questions sent in via social media. These programs do not require registration.

On Thursdays, the library will hold a teen led book discussion at 1:30 p.m. Teens will read and discuss the Half Bad trilogy by Sally Green. The books follow Nathan, a teen caught in the middle of a supernatural war. Copies of the book are available at the library.

There will be different evening programs for teens, also on Thursdays, at 4 p.m. The first few programs are Library CSI, a Poetry Slam/ Open Mic, and Chocolate Games. At Library CSI, participants will learn about analyzing a crime scene, fingerprinting, testing for blood, and more. Then, they will have to solve the mystery of a library murder. At the poetry slam, teens can share a poem, song, or writing piece. For those who just want to listen, there will be plenty of room in the audience. At the Chocolate Games, participants will complete chocolate themed challenges, including games and trivia. All Thursday evening programs require registration. For more information or to register, call the library at 845-794-4660 ext. 8.
