May 2, 2016

Fourth-grade students jammed out to a rousing Zydeco performance during their field trip to Bethel Woods on April 21.

What is Zydeco? It’s an American roots music genre with Southern, Creole and Afro-Creole influences. The two primary instruments are the accordion and the Zydeco rub board, which resembles a washboard.

Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience performed for the students. The band has performed in thousands of concerts in 45 countries and has won two Grammy awards.

During the engaging performance, students and adults were encouraged to sing and dance and some students even had the opportunity to play alongside the band on stage.
