Fifth-grade students from Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School got their hands dirty to celebrate Earth Day.

The students were invited to take a field trip to SUNY Sullivan on April 21 for an Earth Day celebration. Students enjoyed looking at a “dirty ecosystem” using a microscope, digging in kinetic sand and playing in compost. The event also included a wildlife show, an opportunity to plant and take home vegetables, herbs or flowers and most importantly, the opportunity to ask local organizations, “what are you doing to help the earth?”
