Ethelbert B. Crawford public library announces May programs for children and teens

The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library in Monticello has a wide variety of programs coming up for kids and teens.

May 4 is Star Wars Day, and the library will celebrate at 5:00 p.m. in the Robert D. Norris Community Room with a movie on the big screen. On May 7 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., the library will have free comic books to give away for Free Comic Book Day. There will also be board games available to play, and a comic book swap. Bring a few comics from your own collection, and trade them with other comic book fans. The supply of free comic books is limited, so come early.

The line-up for teens starts with Teen Advisory Group on Wednesday, May 4, at 4:00 p.m. Teens are invited to give their ideas for library programs, books, and more. TAG is worth one hour of community service. On May 6 at 5:00 p.m., teens are invited to participate in a Super Smash Bros. tournament. Find out who the best player in the library is. Space in this program is limited, and registration is required.

The fun continues on May 11 at 5:00 p.m. with TEENTalk. Watch a TED talk on a topic of your choosing, or give your own talk. On May 18 at 5:30 p.m., join in on writer’s club. Have your peers read your latest poem, short story, or anything else you may be working on, and get valuable input. May’s teen programs will wrap up with Anime Club on the 18 at 4:30 p.m. Discuss manga, watch Anime, and suggest items to add to the library collection.

Children’s programs include story times, Lego Club, and Game Night. Toddler Time is every Monday at 10:00 a.m. Children and care givers listen to stories, sing songs, and make crafts that will build early literacy skills. Evening Stories is every other Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Kids will listen to stories and participate in activity stations to build literacy and social skills. Pre-K Story time is every Friday at 10:30 a.m. Participants will listen to stories, and continue building early literacy skills.

Kids game night will be held on Friday, May 13 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Kids ages 7-11 are invited to play board games, video games, and computer games. Lego Club will be held on Monday, May 23 at 4:30 p.m. This program is for kids ages 6-12. Kids at Lego Club will have 1.5 hours to complete a challenge. Space is limited in both of these programs, so please call the library to register at (845) 794-4660.
