Monticello High School students receive inaugural Student Athlete AwardsKyle McCreery and Mackenzie Mitchell pose with Athletic Director James Ryan

Feb. 18, 2016

Visitors to the high school’s gymnasium will soon be greeted by a wood-cut display and cluster of plaques with the photos and names of the recipients of the school’s newly-created Student Athlete Awards.

These new awards recognize student athletes who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and athletic contributions to their team, while maintaining a minimum overall 80 average. Athletes are nominated by their coaches, and a committee made up of the school’s athletic director, student council committee and the special events coordinator selects one male and one female recipient at the close of each sports season. Each recipient will have his or her photo displayed on a plaque outside the high school gymnasium.

Prior to the MHS boys basketball game on February 11, the recipients of the inaugural Fall Student Athlete Award were presented with their plaques. The recipients of the Fall student athlete award were Kyle McCreery and Mackenzie Mitchell. Kyle is on the boys varsity football team, and Mackenzie is on the girls varsity soccer team.
