Staff and community members work together to make the season bright for all

Dec. 7, 2015

Every child hopes to open a brand new toy during the holiday season and Rutherford Elementary has done its part to help that dream come true for hundreds of children.

Rutherford teachers and staff, under the organization of the school’s Social Emotional Wellness Coordinator Lynn Selkirk, are collecting toys and donating them to students in need.

Each staff member chose a child's name from a holiday tree in order to provide them with gifts for the holidays.

In addition, Dollar General held a toy drive and donated the toys to the Rutherford Cares Projects’ cause. Sgt. Cheryl Crumley from the Sullivan County Sherriff's Dept. offered to transport the toys to us from the Dollar General.

Coming together as a school family, with the help of Sgt. Crumley and the Dollar General, Rutherford is happy to announce that they are to provide gifts for all of its students and families who may have otherwise gone without this holiday season.
