Monticello Board of Education attends NYSSBA Annual Convention and Education Expo

Oct. 26, 2015

Members from the Monticello Board of Education became students for the day during the 95th New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) Annual Convention and Education Expo in New York City Oct.18-20.

More than 1,300 people from school boards across the state attended the three-day event.

Each year, NYSSBA holds an annual conference for school board members and school superintendents. Seminars, workshops, musical performances and art exhibits highlight the creative talents of students from across the state for conference attendees.

Monticello Board of Education members attended the expo to gain insight into how, as school leaders, they can more effectively affect change in Monticello. They also were exploring ways to empower Monticello students to become tomorrow’s leaders and contributing members of their community.

The expo places a strong emphasis on improving student achievement by providing guidance to board members on appropriate ways to evaluate and influence in their local districts. Attendees were given the chance to share ideas and network with fellow colleagues and educators. Other topics covered during the two days were effective board operations and how to link schools and businesses for college and career readiness.
