Nesin Cultural Arts Summer Integrated Arts Institute presents Taikoza, featuring Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance, at Monticello High School on Tuesday, July 28, from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Taiko is a large barrel-like drum that produces powerful rhythms. The highly visual performance also features flutes (Shakuhatchi and Fue) and string instruments (Koto). Taikoza and East Winds have been featured on the History Channel (History vs. Hollywood) and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their new CD has been nominated as Best Asian Ethnic Album for the Just Plain Folks Music Awards. Taikoza has also recorded music for Nintendo’s “Red Steel” game and the group has been featured on ESPN S.U.M.O. “The Battle of the Giants.”

Tickets are $5. For more information, contact Ellen Nesin at: (845) 794-6013 or e-mail: ellen@nesinculturalarts.org.
