Throughout the year, Teacher in the Spotlight will shine the light on teachers and staff who do exceptional things
for our students and go above and beyond each and every day.

The spotlight is on Susan Bahrenburg!

The next Teacher Spotlight is focused on Susan Bahrenburg, director of Monticello High School's Academy of Finance. Mrs. Bahrenburg has been working in the Monticello Central School District for 22 years.

The Academy of Finance (AOF) is a two-year program for juniors and seniors. Under Mrs. Bahrenburg's direction, the Academy works with local businesses and both education and government leaders to design and offer financial education opportunities for Monticello High School students. Mrs. Bahrenburg is known at the high school for her commitment to helping prepare students for college or careers, and life after high school.

Making a difference in the community is also one of Mrs. Bahrenburg's goals. She teaches the AOF students how to prepare tax returns and they offer free completion of tax returns for members of our community
. Ms. Bahrenburg is truly dedicated to giving her students as much hands-on experience as possible while they are part of the Academy. Through her connections with local businesses, she also helps students secure summer internship opportunities.

"Sue is an amazing educator. She is a learner who embraces new ideas and puts them into practice to improve the educational experience of her students. Colleagues hold her in high regard and respect the effort she puts into her work," Monticello High School Principal Stephen Wilder said.

Mrs. Bahrenburg's work at the Academy of Finance was recently featured in the New York State School Board Association's News CLICK HERE to view the story.
