First grade students build skill in measuring using centimeter rulersFirst grade students are currently learning how to measure length, width, height, and distances using the metric system. Earlier this winter, students from Mrs. Mootz’ and Mrs. Kozachuk's classes explored non-standard and standard units for measuring length in a fun and seasonal snowman craft.

Students built an original snowman using circle tracers of various sizes. Once their snowmen were finish, they measured the height of their snowman using centimeter cubes. Then, each student circulated their classroom to look for a peer who built a snowman that was the same height at theirs. Students also found peers that had shorter and taller snowman. A discussion followed the lesson about comparison.
