June 8, 2015

On Friday, May 29, approximately 70 seniors from Monticello High School enjoyed the school’s first annual lock-in, a drug-and-alcohol-free graduation celebration held at Holiday Mountain.

Students enjoyed go-karts, bumper boats, batting cages, golf, arcade games and raffles.

Sha-Shawn Drayton and Brett Hughes each won $25 gift cards to be used toward school supplies. Yamilersy Reyes won a $250 gift card. The biggest winner of the night was Morgan Halloran, who won a laptop computer.

The event was organized by the Monticello High School Student Council and sponsored by the district’s Extended School Day Program. Many clubs were also involved in the sponsorship. MHS holds first annual lock-in, a supervised drug/alcohol free graduation celebration

Student Council Advisor Mary Ellen Hurley would like to recognize the Student Council’s Planning Committee Members Desteni Perez, Shantanasia Byrums and Natasiana Smalls for birthing the idea of the lock-in and seeing it through to fruition.

“We’d also like to Yamilersy Reyes for asking her employer, McDonalds of Monticello, to sponsor our raffles,” she said.

Student Council is excited to host this event again next year.
