Superintendent Teplesky responds to Project Excel incident

October 30, 2013

District officials have been notified about a recent incident at the Project Excel Preschool program located at 22 St. John Street in Monticello.

While the Monticello Central School District owns the building that houses the preschool program, it is not a district program. The Project Excel Preschool program is under the direction of the Easter Seals of NY, Inc., and runs independently from the school district. The program is partially funded by the New York State Department of Education Universal Pre-Kindergarten Grant. The district leases building space to Project Excel, and the program is responsible for implementing its own security protocols.

As always, the school district’s primary concern is for the safety of children residing in our communities. In light of this incident, all Monticello schools will be reviewing with staff our protocols for releasing students. We have offered the staff at Project Excel our assistance to help improve their security procedures to help prevent situations like this in the future.

Please contact the district office if you have any questions or concerns.
