New Assistant Director of Transportation Ready for Action

August 31, 2012

Assistant Director of Transportation Kathleen Cummings and colleaguesAccording to the new assistant director of transportation, Kathleen Cummings, she is a perfect fit for Monticello Schools. And being personally mentored by her predecessor, Mary Koselnak, helped make for a smooth transition. Although Ms. Cummings officially began in June, the former New York City Transit Authority bus driver is ready for the new school year – and its excitement – to begin.

“I already feel like I am part of the Monticello family,” said Ms. Cummings. “I look forward to strengthening our collaboration with parents and the community.”

Prior to coming to Monticello, Ms. Cummings worked as the safety manager for a school bus contractor in Dutchess County and emphasized that "student safety is and will always be her top priority."

Ms. Cummings began driving a school bus when her son entered kindergarten more than a decade ago. As a former driver, she can relate to the many different facets of the school transportation industry, which she feels has prepared her for her new responsibility of overseeing Monticello CSD’s drivers, monitors and aides.

Ms. Cummings lives in LaGrangeville with her husband, Tom, and their children, Tommy and Cookie.

As for Mary Koselnak, since she retired in August, she has already taken a vacation to Delaware, cleaned a number of rooms in her house and spent time with her grandkids. After her 11 years of action-packed adventure in Monticello Schools, she plans to “relax, enjoy life and play it by ear.”
