Cooke students recently entered a contest sponsored by the Sullivan County Catskill Shopper in honor of Earth Day. The students completed an “I pledge” statement for a chance to win a tree or a shrub for the Cooke school garden.

Kailey Martinez, a fourth grade student in Megan Smith's class, entered the Earth Day contest and won a Kwanzan cherry tree with her pledge: “I pledge to pick up litter when I see it.”

The tree was planted in front of the school for everyone to enjoy. Many students also received honorable mentions in the contest.
