Samantha StawarzMonticello grad cheers with WVI, wins NCA Nationals

April 17, 2013

Samantha Stawarz, a Monticello graduate and former cheerleader, recently cheered -- and won -- at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Nationals in Daytona, Fla., over the weekend with the West Virginia University Club Cheerleading team.

According to Samantha, the WVU competitive cheerleading club put up a fight after receiving a 5 point deduction and being sent to challenge up. Challenge up is the bottom 8 teams that compete a second time the same day and the winner of that moves to finals.

"We were lucky enough to hit a perfect routine, beat out the other 7 teams and move to the finals," said Stawarz. "Since we went into the finals as the lowest team we went first. That didn't stop us though, we again hit another perfect routine! Wow! Was it it exciting! I wish that our high school teams could compete on a national level because it is an experience I will never forget!"
