November 1, 2012

Students doing an activity at Fire Safety NightOn October 17, the Cooke-Rutherford PTO and the Monticello Fire Department hosted an important Family Fire Safety Night for Cooke and Rutherford families at Cooke Elementary School.

The evening event was an extension of other Fire Safety Week activities that included the Fire Department's visit to each school and tours of the fire house by students in grades K-2.

The purpose of Family Fire Safety Night was for the Fire Department to provide valuable safety information to adult members of our community. The PTO engaged the children in a variety of crafts and snacks while the adults attended a one hour information session that concluded with a question and answer session. Each family was provided with a smoke detector to take home and a reminder to check all detector batteries regularly. There were more than 75 families in attendance for this event
