KLR students learn about fire safety

October 23, 2012

Monticello firemanWhat do you do if there is a fire? Who is wearing that gear? When do you stop, drop and roll? Those are some of the questions that were asked and answered when Rutherford students got together with the Monticello Fire Department.

October is Fire Prevention Month. Every year, members of the local fire departments visit our school to teach children about fire safety and prevention. This year, several children were able to practice their stop, drop and roll techniques in front of their peers. They got to hear the sound a smoke detector makes and they saw all of the gear firefighters wear while keeping us safe. The children were delighted to learn that our very own Mr. John Correa was the man in the mask; teaching children that you never know who might come to their rescue!

Remember, when you change your clocks, change your smoke detector batteries!
