Cooke students participate in Math Bowl

Cooke students with Math Bowl medalsOn June 8, fifth grade students from throughout the district gathered in the KLR gym for the annual Fifth Grade Math Bowl.

Representatives from each of the 11 fifth grade classes at KLR, Cooke and Chase were chosen to attend and compete in this year’s Math Bowl. In total, 54 students competed.

Students were randomly placed on one of nine teams, each consisting of six students. The teams competed in four rounds – Individual Questions, Group Problem Solving Questions, and the popular Fish Bowl and Lightning Rounds. Questions ranged from basic arithmetic to complex problem solving.

The scores from each round were tabulated by KLR Principal Kimberly Patterson and Gregory Gorman, Director of MST. Every student who participated in the Math Bowl was awarded with a gold medal.

In the end, trophies were awarded for the top three teams as well as the top three individuals. The winners were:

First place team - "The Rectangles"
Caitlynn Carrera, Brianna Soto, Madison Graham, Michael Abramson, Liam Evans & Arnold San Miguel

Second place team - "The Triangles"
Thomas Cammerino, David Schneider, Jorge Perez, Zachery Ocasio, Joshua Doty & Ezra Ogbonna

Third place team - "The Cones"
Ashley Gettel, Simone Evans, Nicholas Dollard, Ryan Grodin, Janelle Leon & Steve Moore
