Students at the Walk for HungerThe Monticello High School Key Club and Kaiser Middle School Builders Club, both sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Monticello, recently participated in the Kiwanis Family Walk for Hunger at the Rails to Trails in Mountaindale. The Kiwanis Family consists of Kiwanis Clubs in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties.

More than $7,000 was raised and 70 boxes of food were given to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, which supplies many soup kitchens, food pantries and other area programs that serve the needs of the hungry. Several students enjoyed the day walking alongside other Kiwanis Family members and helping out a worthy cause.

In addition to the walk, donation cans and collection boxes for non-perishable food items were placed throughout the school district and at various local businesses. More than $200 was raised and several boxes of food were collected.

The goal of Key Club and Builders Club is to serve the community, build leadership and character. These students continually exhibit these traits with the activities they have participated in throughout the school year.
