New "School Board Academy" Available to Board of Education Members

March 23, 2012

The new Sullivan County School Board Academy is designed to provide current school board members with an enhanced understanding of the board's role in policy-making. Specialized sessions will focus on the many facets and fundamentals of school board service.

The Academy will also provide a forum for discussion among board members and area administrators of complex and sometimes contentious topics. Conversations will include understanding the role of the board of education in the fiscal oversight of a school district, and implementing and sustaining NY State initiatives for educational reform, including Race to the Top, Common Core State Standards and Data Driven Instruction.

The Academy is a joint venture of the Sullivan County School Boards Associations (SCSBA) and Sullivan County BOCES and is focused on addressing the ever-changing needs of school board members. For more information, call SCSBA at 845-292-9039.
