Helen Reno and Linda SchaeferTwo beloved support staff members say goodbye

December 5, 2011

Although the mood at the retirement celebration was festive and happy, the dozens of past and present Monticello Central School District support staff members who gathered for longtime friends and co-workers Helen Reno and Linda Schaefer, were sad to say goodbye.

Helen Reno, who is in her 80s, first began in Monticello in 1984 as a part-time study hall aide. She became full time the following year when she took the position as a secretary at the Cooke Elementary School. In 2002, she was transferred to the Rutherford Elementary School where she worked until her official retirement in August 2011.

Linda Schaefer began her Monticello journey in 1989 in the business office as an account clerk typist. During the summer of 1997, she was transferred to Monticello High School, where she was the friendly, smiling face who greeted the students, staff and families. She officially retired from the district on November 30.

Both of these women were respected and loved by the many people whom they encountered. They brought sunshine to many a day. They will be missed. The retirement dinner for the duo was held at Albella's Italian Restaurant in Monticello in mid November.
