Monticello applies to extend interest-free payment deadline for school taxesMCSD Business Personnel

September 23, 2011

Monticello Business Administrator Denise Cedeira-Thornton, on behalf of the school district, submitted a request to NY State Governor Andrew Cuomo for a penalty and interest-free extension to this year’s tax payment deadline. If the extension is approved, Monticello School District residents will have until 5 p.m. on October 21 to pay their school taxes without any added fees or interest. Presently, the penalty-free period ends on September 30.

This request was submitted by Ms. Cedeira-Thornton on September 23 as a way to help homeowners and businesses who are recovering from the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. If approved, it will give all residents a little extra time to pay their taxes.

“We realize that many families in our community are struggling to get by,” said Ms. Cedeira-Thornton, who is a lifelong resident of Monticello. “This extension could help our taxpayers during these tough times.”

District officials are hopeful that the request will be approved by the governor early next week. To support the request, community members are encouraged to contact their government officials.
