Fifth graders create Joseph Cornell Memory Box
The
Joseph Cornell Memory Box Project was a collaborative lesson
between the Poetry Unit of Study in ELA and Art. The Art
component turned out to be a real time of discovery as the fifth
grade students in Miss Hector’s classroom and Mrs. Garrett’s Art
Room gathered their cherished possessions to build a composition
emulating the artwork of local Hyde Park artist Joseph Cornell.
Cornell does not call himself an artist; he is a “collector of things.” You can check out Cornell’s work at www.josephcornellbox.com. The students learned a lot about themselves and each other during this exciting project.
