Family Reading Night a great success
March
2010
This year's Family Reading Night at
the RJK Middle School celebrated literacy with a variety of guest
speakers,
activities
and good books. Featured guests included local historians
John Conway and Rita Sheehan, local author Myron Gittel, poet Eda
LaPolt and Monticello High School senior Marina Lombardi, whose book
about her perspective during her parents' divorce was published last
year.
"I started writing my book when I was 10 years-old," explained
Marina who is now 17. "My advice to anyone interested in
writing, is to just do it - pick a subject that interests you and
start writing."
Dozens of families participated in the event and enjoyed the
homemade cakes and snacks while spending some quality time together.
For those who love to shop, there was a wide selection of literary
works and goodies available at the RJK PTA's Scholastic Book Fair.
This event was sponsored by the RJK
Middle School Literary Club and the RJK PTA. For more
information, please call 796-3058, ext. 20216.
