High School Academic Eligibility

If a student-athlete has two or more failing grades at the end of any marking period, he/she is considered to be on academic probation for all of the weeks of the following marking period. This probation entails the following guidelines:

  1. The student has exactly two weeks from the time the ineligibility list is issued to receive mandatory tutorial sessions in the needed subject areas in order to bring up the failing grades to passing grades.

  2. It is the student-athlete's responsibility to get the academic probation his/her teachers. The student must abide by the terms on the form (including two tutorial sessions a week) and must return the completed form at the end of the two week period to his/her coach. Failure to abide by all rules will result in the athlete's dismissal from the athletic squad.

  3. The student may practice during this two week period but may not participate in any athletic contest.

  4. At the end of this period, if the student is passing all subjects, or only failing one subject, he/she may practice and participate in all contests.
Note - the student is responsible for all subjects, not just the ones for which he/she was originally placed on the list.

  5. If the student is still failing two or more subjects, he/she will be removed from that athletic team for the entire season.

  6. Students who are placed on academic probation will be required to be continually monitored on a two week basis until the next ineligibility list is issued. Monitoring consists of the student-athlete bringing the coach a form signed by all his/her teachers indicating the student's grades. The student-athlete will be immediately removed from the team if at any time the grade report indicates two or more course failures.

  7. All written appeals will be presented to an appeals board which will consist of the high school principal or their representative, Athletic Director and a neutral coach.

Note - If at any time after the initial ineligibility list is issued, a student's two week report indicates they are failing two or more courses, they will be suspended from the team until the next ineligibility list.
