LEGAL NOTICE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a budget hearing of the
qualified voters of the Monticello Central School District,
Sullivan County, New York will be held on Thursday, May 3,
2018, at 7:00 PM prevailing time in the Robert J. Kaiser
Middle School Cafeteria, 45 Breakey Avenue, Monticello, New
York, for the presentation of the budget document. This
meeting will be only for the purpose of discussion and
explanation of the proposed budget.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the annual meeting
and election will be held on May 15, 2018, between the hours
of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, prevailing time, in the election
districts heretofore established and hereinafter described,
at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting
machine upon the following items:
1. To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the
fiscal year 2018-2019 and to authorize the requisite portion
thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of
the District.
2. To elect three (3) trustees of the Board of Education for
three (3) year terms commencing July 1, 2018 and expiring on
June 30, 2021.
The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of
Education:

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the
statement of the amount of money which will be required to
fund the School District's budget for 2018-2019, exclusive
of public monies, may be obtained by any resident of the
District during business hours beginning April 26, 2018,
except Saturday, Sunday or holidays, at the Central
Administration office, 237 Forestburgh Road, Monticello, New
York, and at each of the following schoolhouses:
Monticello High School, 39 Breakey Avenue, Monticello, New
York
Robert J. Kaiser Middle School, 45 Breakey Avenue,
Monticello, New York
Emma C. Chase School, 28 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wurtsboro, New
York
Kenneth L. Rutherford School, 26 Patricia Place, Monticello,
New York
George L. Cooke School, 69 Richardson Avenue, Monticello,
New York.
A copy of such statement will also be available at the
Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library, 479 Broadway,
Monticello, and posted on the School District’s website at
http://www.monticelloschools.net.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions nominating
candidates for the office of member of the Board of
Education shall be filed with the School District Clerk at
his/her office in the Central Administrative Building, no
later than April 16, 2018, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Each
petition shall be directed to the School District Clerk,
shall state the name and residence of the candidate, shall
state the specific vacancy on the Board of Education for
which the candidate is nominated and the name of the last
incumbent, if any. Petitions must be signed by at least 25
qualified voters of the district (or 2 percent of the number
of those who voted in the previous election, whichever
number is greater) and must state the name and address of
each signer.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for
absentee ballots may be applied for at the office of the
School District Clerk beginning March 29, 2018, during
school business hours; completed applications must be
received by the School District Clerk at least seven (7)
days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to
the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is
to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots
must be received in the office of the School District Clerk
no later than 5:00 PM, prevailing time, on May 15, 2018.
Pursuant to the provision of Section 2018-a of the Education
Law, qualified voters who meet the criteria for "permanently
disabled" and are so certified by the Sullivan County Board
of Election, will receive absentee ballots by mail.
A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will
be available for inspection by any qualified voter of the
District in the office of the School District Clerk on or
after May 10, 2018, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM
on weekdays prior to the day set for the annual meeting and
election, until May 15, 2018, the date of the annual meeting
and election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of
such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications as
a voter of any person whose name appears on such list,
stating the reasons for such challenge. Such written
challenge shall be transmitted by the School District Clerk
to the Inspectors of Election on election day.
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that personal registration of
voters is required pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education
Law. If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant to
Section 2014 of the Education Law and has voted at an annual
or special district meeting within the last four (4)
calendar years, he/she is eligible to vote at this election;
if a voter is registered and eligible to vote under Article
5 of the Election Law, he/she is also eligible to vote at
this election. All other persons who wish to vote must
register.
The Board of Registration will meet at each of the
registration places designated below on Tuesday, May 8,
2018, between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, prevailing
time, to prepare the register of the School District for the
Annual Meeting and Election, and any person not heretofore
registered shall be entitled to have his or her name placed
upon such register, provided that at such meeting of the
Board of Registration, he or she is known or proven to the
satisfaction of such Board of Registration to be then or
thereafter entitled to vote at said Annual Meeting and
Election for which the register is prepared.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that qualified voters of the
Monticello Central School District may register at the
office of the School District Clerk of the Monticello
Central School District at 237 Forestburgh Road on any
school day between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM
prevailing time up until Tuesday, May 8, 2018, the date of
such meeting of the Board of Registration. At this time any
person shall have their name placed on the election
register, provided that at such time the person has proven
to the satisfaction of the Clerk that he/she shall be
entitled to vote.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the boundaries, registration
places and polling places of the election districts of said
school district are as follows:
SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 5: all that portion of
Monticello Central School District lying in the Town of
Forestburgh. Polling and registration place at the
Forestburgh Town Hall, 332 King Road, Forestburgh, New York.
SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 4: all that portion of
Monticello Central School lying in the Town of Thompson and
described as follows: beginning at the point where the Town
lines of Fallsburg, Mamakating and Thompson intersect and
run thence Southwesterly along the East bounds of the Town
of Thompson to the point where the Town lines of Thompson,
Mamakating and Forestburgh intersect; thence Westerly along
the South bounds of the Town of Thompson to a point in the
center of Town Road #83 or Murran Road-Rose Valley; thence
Northerly along the center of Town Road #33 to a point in
the center of State Highway Route 17; thence Easterly along
the center of Route 12 to a point opposite the center of
Town Road #60 or Towner Road; thence Northerly along the
center of Town Road #60 to a point on the North bounds of
the Town of Thompson; thence Easterly along the North bounds
of the Town of Thompson to a point in the center of the
Neversink River; thence Southerly along the center of the
Neversink River to a point on the North bounds of the Town
of Thompson; thence Easterly along the North bounds of the
Town of Thompson; to a point or place of beginning, with the
polling place and registration place at the Rock Hill Fire
Department building, 61 Glen Wild Road, Rock Hill, New York.
SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 3: all that portion of
Monticello Central School District lying in the Town of
Mamakating. Polling and registration place at the Emma Chase
School, 28 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wurtsboro, New York.
SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 2: all that portion of the
Monticello Central School District lying in the Town of
Bethel. Polling and registration place at the Dr. Duggan
Community Center, 3460 Route 55, White Lake, New York.
SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 1: all the remainder of
Monticello Central School District. Polling and registration
place at the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School, 45 Breakey
Ave., Monticello, New York.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the register of the School
District, so prepared pursuant to Section 2014 of the
Education Law, will be filed in the office of the School
District Clerk, 237 Forestburgh Road, Monticello, NY 12701,
where it will be available for inspection by any qualified
voter of the District on or after May 10, 2018, between the
hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM on weekdays, between the hours
of 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 12, 2018, and on
the day set for the annual meeting and election at each of
the polling places set forth above.
