The "Rules for Fighting Fair" posted at KLR

Students in Rutherford's third-grade enrichment book club have been reading, "The Hundred Dresses" by Eleanor Estes. This is a story about children in a school who put down and tease a fellow student. Because of the theme, the students had many discussions about how to treat each other in school. Using research from the Peace Education Foundation's web site, students found the "Rules For Fighting Fair." This inspired students to color the handout and post it around the building to share with the other students. The rules to help work out a problem out peacefully are as follows:
1. Find out the problem
2. Attack the problem, not the person.
3. Listen to each other.
4. Care about each other's feelings.
5. Be responsible for what you say and do.
Fouls include: hitting, name calling, put downs, threats, bossing, teasing, blaming, making excuses, not listening and getting even - these are the things to avoid.
