How long have you been teaching?
About 35 years privately. 7 in the public schools
Where did you go to college?
University of Washington in Seattle, then Graduate School at
Goddard College in Vermont
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Seeing the light bulb go off when a student "gets" something.
Also the sound of young voices in concert.
Why did you become a music teacher?
To share what I love so much and have been fortunate to be
educated in myself - how to create, understand and most of all
enjoy good music.
Did you do anything else before you
became a music teacher? Wrote a book on how to make
cheese, traveled the world, studied yoga and meditation.
In your opinion, why do you think music
education is important? In my opinion it is one of the
most important elements of education. Music uses the whole
being, delights, stimulates the imagination, it keeps things
flowing, is an avenue for self-expression, builds teamwork and
other social skills - all of which help with academics too. It's
win win win.
How has music influenced your life?
It would take too long to say that here but a few things are -
brought me in contact with many wonderful people, taught me the
value of discipline, and kept me in touch with what's in my own
heart. It has has made life joyous and inspired.
