RJK Middle School presented "Alice"
“Alice,” is based on the stories, “Alice in Wonderland,” and
“Through the Looking
Glass” by Lewis Carroll.
The script for this family musical was written by James Leisy
with songs by James Leisy and Carl Eberhard.
More than 70 students comprise the cast and stage crew, with
teachers Amy Abraham as director, Nancy Wegrzyn as musical
director, Tim Buckley as set and lighting designer choreography
and costumes by Karissa Mollicone and producer Ann Trombley.
“Alice,” sends a wonderful message to children and adults about
the need to accept differences among all people. The production
allowed parents and grandparents to share this special time of
year with children, while teaching
them in an entertaining manner, very important lessons of life.
We encourage families and friends to join together for this
special presentation.

Monticello Schools honored again for its great music program - Best Communities for Music Education
Monticello's Music Department has
been selected as one of the nation's best school
districts for
music education for the fourth year in a row. This top honor is
given by the NAMM Foundation to districts with a "superb
school-based music education program for young people" and
recognizes Monticello's dedication to assuring that all students
receive music education as part of a complete and quality
education.
In addition, it acknowledges the community’s outstanding support of activities that encourage all students to expand their knowledge throughout the many aspects of music.
The music program's many supporters, such as Steve’s Music Center and the Weekend of Chamber Music, allow Monticello's dedicated faculty to share their passion for music with their students. In addition, many community establishments and parents provide help and support for the music program.
Some of our students have gone on to find success at the Metropolitan Opera and as part of national touring theater groups. Many alumni have excelled in their studies at the Manhattan School of Music, Cincinnati Conservatory, Purchase, Juilliard, SUNY Fredonia, Ithaca College, SUNY Potsdam, and Berkley College of Music, to name a few. Instrument Donations Needed
Do you have a trumpet collecting dust in your attic or perhaps a saxophone at the bottom of your closet covered with shoes? If so, we ask that you please consider donating it to the Monticello Music Department. Every year, we have students who want to play an instrument but cannot afford to rent or purchase one. When this occurs, the Music Department works to find an available instrument that they can borrow. When an instrument is donated, it is sent to a repairman to check out and make sure it is in playing condition. Then it is given to a needy child.
If you have such an instrument and would like to help, please contact the district's head music teacher, Ann Trombley, at 794-8840 or atrombley@k12mcsd.net.
Quiet PLEASE...
During musical and theatrical performances it is absolutely necessary to follow a strict protocol of etiquette. Proper behavior during performances will cut down on the many distractions that can affect the performers. It also allows all audience members to have a more fulfilling experience. District phone system is playing our songs
If you've called a school /district office recently and were placed on hold, you've heard Monticello's own version of MUSAK. Unlike most school districts that connect their telephone systems to electronic "elevator" music, Monticello has created its own version of MUSAK, using musical selections from past Monticello High School concerts. The music you hear highlights the talents of the High School's various performing groups. While feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, several people have complained...It seems that they love the music so much, they don't want to be taken off hold!
The Monticello Music Program is an integral part of our students' educational experience. The district is proud to offer students a variety of ways to become involved in music, either through singing, playing an instrument or participating in one of our general music courses. Monticello offers several programs at different levels:
Elementary
Middle School
High School
We encourage all students to get involved and excited about music and the wonderful things it has to offer.
