Monticello High School Writing Program

Monticello High School is working towards narrowing the achievement gap and raising graduation rates. One of the ways in which this success can be achieved is by unifying our understanding of writing requirements and having students write across the content areas. This common set of goals will increase focus and more easily familiarize students with writing expectations, regardless of the content specialty goal.

The documents below are designed to help all of us reach these goals. They include a Writing Research Handbook that contains everything teachers and students need to know about writing a research and position paper. These guidelines and outlines are based on accredited research and writing methods that use the criteria for acceptable writing as determined by the Board of Regents. Additionally, there is an article about research, a list of helpful web sites and a checklist to help students understand how to tackle a research paper. Some of the information is based on the Big 6 approach which clearly delineates the process of organizing ideas and goals clearly and concisely.
