Debate: The MHS Debate Team for the 2017-18 season will practice on Monday and Thursday in room 204 from 2:15 to 4:30 p.m. Please see Mrs. Joyce-Turner on Mr. Devlin if you have any questions.

Class of 2019: It’s Junior Prom time! Tickets are on sale for $45 per ticket. The venue is at the Wallkill Golf Club in Middletown on Nov. 9 from 6 to 10 p.m. You must be academically eligible in order to attend. See your class advisor during your lunch periods or Mrs. Leonard in the math wing for more details.

Monti-Idol: Monti-Idol returns to the high school auditorium tonight, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Who will steal the show and melt your heart? Come find out and cheer on your friends. Tickets are $3 and concession will be available. Drop the mic!

National Honor Society: Tutor needed for Spanish 1 – Please see Senora Leyden for more information. Honor Society members needed to greet guests to the Hall of Distinction Celebration on Nov. 3 at 11:30 a.m. See Ms. Leyden ASAP.

Poetry Out Loud: Do you like to recite? Love poetry? Monticello will hold its first poetry-out-loud competition. Participants will memorize and be judged on the recitation of two poems. The winner will compete in the state competition in Albany. See Ms. Boncek ASAP if you are interested.

Freedom Writers: The library is showing Freedom Writers today, Oct. 20 after school from 2:20 to 4:30 p.m. Come to the library immediately after school to watch the movie inspired by Erin Gruwell’s incredible story, and how her English class became known as the Freedom Writers. For more information, see Ms. Vanacore or Ms. Boncek.

Writers: Have you ever wanted to write a novel and don’t know where to begin? November is the National Novel writing month. See Ms. Boncek to join the online class. Get resources, receive encouragement and learn how to write a novel in 30 days. The opportunity is open to everyone – students and staff.

Food Drive applications: Food drive applications are on the main office counter. Anyone wishing to participate in the food drive needs to complete all parts and requirements and hand the application packet directly to Mrs. Collura by 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Any senior who wants to be a food drive and toy drive chairperson needs to see Mrs. Collura in person, in addition to filling out the applications on the main office counter.

Cheerleading: There will be a general interest meeting held on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in room 108 from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. for all those interested in cheerleading. Both girls and boys are welcome with no previous experience necessary. Anyone interested in winter cheerleading is encouraged to attend!

Locker Rooms: All students entering the locker rooms after school must enter and exit through the bottom. No one will be allowed to enter or exit through the gymnasium.

English Tutorial: Today’s English tutorial will be in room 223 with Mrs. Hazelnis.

Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers: Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers is looking for students to join our program. We offer training, workshops, college visits and collaboration with other TSTT students form Ellenville, Kingston and Fallsburg. Be a leader, a teacher, get into college and explore different educational job opportunities. Orientation is Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the library. Please sign up in the registration office, the office below the weight room, to receive your pass from Mrs. Swensen.

Writers’ Club: Attention all poets and writers. The Writers’ Club meets every Monday after school.

Academy Of Finance: The Academy of Finance is hosting a 3v3 basketball tournament on Nov. 4 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the high school gym. Entry for the tournament is $5 per player if you sign up and pay before Nov. 1; after that date it is $7 per player. Spectators are $3. Maximum of 3 to 5 players on your team. There will be pizza, snacks and drinks at the event and you must be eligible to participate. Please sign up outside room 609 in the AOF bulletin board and see Mrs. Bahrenburg to make your payment.
