Monticello Board of Education Searching for New District Leader - BOE Press Release

Monticello Central School District
Board of Education President, Susan Purcell has announced the
official resignation of Dr. Patrick Michel, District Superintendent
effective February 4, 2011.
She has stated, “No school board ever wants someone to leave their
employ, however, all school boards understand that no one person
makes education happen. To that end, the Board of Education, in
order to do its due diligence, is in the process of interviewing
potential interim candidates for the position. An interim will allow
for an appropriate search for the right Superintendent to serve the
needs of our entire educational community.”
The Board is working with BOCES District Superintendent Larry Thomas
to fill the Interim Superintendent position currently open. The
expectation is that the Interim Superintendent will begin working in
district by the last week in January and take over full
responsibilities as of Feb. 7th 2011.
Once the vacancy is filled with an interim candidate, the Board of
Education will focus on the criteria development and implementation
of the process to use for the search for a permanent Superintendent
for the district who will provide the educational leadership and
knowledge, community outreach and structure to meet the needs of all
students and stakeholders in the district.
On behalf of the entire Board of Education and Monticello Central
School District community, Mrs. Purcell offers Dr. Michel success
and luck as he tackles the aspects of his new position.
