Monticello's School and District Accountability Status: How We Are Doing
November 2010
The NY State Department of Education (NYSED) released its annual
District Report Card Accountability and Overview Report for all
school districts in the state on November 4. This report
provides information to the public on each district’s
performance and the status of schools within the district based
on student achievement.

The Monticello Central School District has been designated by
NYSED as a district in “good standing.” This is the result of a
cooperative effort of all members of the learning community
working together to put the systems in place that provide for
optimum student achievement by using cohesive approaches to
stimulate student growth.
This year, all the schools in the district made Adequate Yearly
Progress (AYP) and, except for Monticello High School which is
in its first year of restructuring, all the district schools
achieved the status of schools in “good standing” - which means
they met the state benchmark of proficiency. It is necessary for
Monticello High School to make AYP in math one more year before
it can be ranked in “good standing.” Administrators and faculty
have created a comprehensive educational plan to address the
needs at the high school level by increasing student performance
and learning. Data from the high school assessments are being
used to identify and analyze the specific areas that need the
most focus.
“Involving all stakeholders to be a part of the process is the
key to our success. Our schools have worked collaboratively to
build solid educational programs for our children. We are proud
of the progress our high school has made and with the success of
all our schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Patrick Michel. “As we
look to the future, we will continue to improve our programs and
address the needs of our diverse student population.”
