Unfounded rumor about Duggan causes disruption
On November 10, someone began a false
rumor on their Facebook page stating that there was a gunman at
the Duggan Elementary School. THIS WAS
COMPLETELY UNTRUE. After hearing of the circulating
rumor, school Principal Patti Sonnenschein and Superintendent of
Schools Dr. Patrick Michel called the police to investigate -
nothing was found.
It is believed that the person who started the rumor got Duggan
confused with a report of a gunman at a Dutchess County school.
This type of irresponsible scare-mongering can and did disrupt
the school day. An investigation into who started the rumor is
being conducted and inquiries into whether charges against that
person can be filed are being considered.
As always, if you hear a rumor about something bad happening,
please DO NOT spread it around, call your child's school or the
district office or check this web site for accurate information.
If you have any questions or information about this incident, please call Ms. Sonnenschein at 583-5390.
