The Restoration ProjectMusic teachers

The Restoration Music Project is under the guidance of Monticello teachers Ann Trombley - Performing Arts Academy head teacher and Nancy Wegrzyn - Chamber Music and Orchestra Director and the Weekend of Chamber Music. The artistic collaboration between the Weekend of Chamber Music and Monticello Chamber Music Program is now fifteen years old.

This project began in October with a trip by Monticello High School students to the Mid-Hudson Bridge, The students experienced and listened to composer Joseph Bertolozzi’s “Bridge Music.” The second semester of this school year, students will spend time restoring the St. John Street Theatre in Monticello for completion of this project. They will identify and analyze acoustic properties, and sample different sounds produced as a result of the restoration process. Students will research music history during the life of the theatre. They will gather community facts, personal stories and explore past performers and performances.

The restored theater will be unveiled at “The Last Night” program on June 11, 2010 when the students’ composition will be premiered. Students will work with Weekend of Chamber Music Artists Andrew Wagonner and Allen Blustine.
