About Us: Preparing Students for the Global Community
Monticello Central School District
One Vision - One Goal - One Monticello
The Monticello Central School District is in Sullivan County, NY, centrally located between New York City, Albany and the Pocono Mountain region. This provides a rare combination to live in a rural setting and still be close to major metropolitan areas for recreation and career.
The district is comprised of five schools as follows:
Emma C. Chase Elementary School - Grades K-5
George L. Cooke Elementary School - Grades K-5
Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School - Grades K-5
Robert J. Kaiser Middle School - Grades 6-8
Monticello High School - Grades 9-12
Monticello is the largest of the eight county school districts with a multicultural enrollment of approximately 3,100 students.
Our School District
The emphasis in the primary grades includes an integrated language arts curriculum supported with early intervention programs such as Reading Recovery, Title I and ESL. At the elementary level, our schools are implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme as a way to align our curriculum with international standards in education. All K-5 students receive instruction in art, music, physical education and technology.
At the middle school level, more accelerated math and science classes are expanding the number of students accessing upper level coursework to prepare for the rigors of the global society. The middle school program includes grade level teams which provide support for students and make integrated instruction possible. Technology, music, art, home and careers, study skills and a foreign language program are part of the curriculum.
Students in Monticello High School are offered a comprehensive program of academics, sports and co-curricular experiences. Program offerings provide college preparation, as well as career and technical training (through BOCES). Our Freshman Academy helps students transition smoothly from the middle school to the high school and there is an expanded number of honors and accelerated classes offered to freshmen. The high school structure is designed to prepare students for college and the global economy with access to college level courses, advanced computer technology, a comprehensive foreign language program and our Academy of Finance, which is a nationally recognized program that prepares students with skills in computer applications, accounting, banking and credit, economics and international finance.
Celebrating Culture and Diversity in the Monticello Central School District
